This folly was erected c.1830 in the grounds of Ballycumber house. It is set on a height in a beautiful designed landscape by the river Brosna. ‘It is a curious structure, circular in plan with soaring buttresses, perhaps reminiscent of great cathedrals seen on distant shores.’ (Flights of Fancy. Follies, Families and Demesnes in Offaly. Rachel McKenna). It appears to have been designed as a tea house and has an internal fireplace. The first phase of work to conserve the folly was undertaken by the owners with assistance from Offaly County Council and a grant from the Follies Trust.

Please see report from Rachel McKenna on work to date.

The Irish Georgian Society has featured the Ballycumber Folly on their website.
